PREMIUM LENSES

Hoya lenses chosen to suit your frames and your eyes

Groovy Glasses fits the complete Hoya lens range at our New Regent Street practice in central Christchurch. We match the lens to the frame you fall for, so the finished pair looks the way you want it to and performs the way it should.

WHY HOYA

Six decades of Japanese lens craft, fitted with an eye for style

Hoya has built optical lenses for more than 60 years. We pair that manufacturing with the frames on our shelves, taking your measurements while you wear the frame you have chosen so the lens design and the frame design work together.

Cut for your prescription, shaped for your frame

Freeform technology lets Hoya cut each lens to your prescription rather than to a stock curve, which matters with the bold shapes and deeper curves our customers tend to choose. The design accounts for your pupillary distance (the gap between the centres of your pupils), the frame shape and the way that frame tilts on your face.

We take those measurements in store with the frame on your face. Getting them right keeps thickness under control at the edges, which protects the look of a strong acetate or a fine metal rim.

THE HOYA RANGE

A Hoya Lens for Every Vision Need

Progressive lenses

Progressive lenses give you near, intermediate and distance vision in one lens with no line across the front. Hoya freeform designs suit the frames we stock on New Regent Street, because the corridor of clear vision stays usable in deeper and shallower shapes alike.

Occupational lenses

Occupational lenses hold your screen and your desk in focus through the working day. We set the clear zone around your own working distances, which stops you tipping your head back to find focus and lets you wear a frame with some presence at work.

Sun & polarised lenses

Polarised lenses cut reflected glare from roads, water and pavement. Hoya offers tints and mirror finishes across a range of densities, so we build a pair that reads as sunglasses first and prescription eyewear second.

Single vision lenses

Single vision lenses correct one viewing distance across the full lens, for short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. Aspheric designs, which flatten the lens profile, keep stronger prescriptions slim enough for the wire and rimless frames that show every millimetre.

Advanced focus lenses

Advanced focus lenses help when reading starts to feel like hard work in your forties. Extra power at the base of the lens takes the strain off close focus, and the difference stays invisible from the outside.

Photochromic lenses

Hoya Sensity lenses go dark in sunlight and clear again indoors, all in a single pair. They suit customers who want one frame to carry them from the office to the tram stop without a second case in the bag.

FOR GROWING EYES

Slowing myopia in children with Hoya MiYOSMART

Childhood myopia, or short-sightedness, is increasing worldwide. MiYOSMART lenses use D.I.M.S. technology, a pattern of small lens segments that encourages the eye to slow its growth, and they do this without patches, drops or contact lenses.

MiYOSMART lenses sit in ordinary spectacle frames and look like any other lens, so children wear them without feeling singled out. We fit them into frames chosen from our children’s range, which usually decides whether the glasses stay on.
