DITA

John Juniper and Jeff Solorio founded DITA in Laguna Beach, California in 1995. Both came from creative backgrounds in photography and film, and that origin shows in how the brand thinks about design: visually precise, drawn to specific cultural moments and the aesthetics of particular eras. From the beginning, DITA focused its production in Japan, working with artisan factories whose craftspeople have dedicated decades to eyewear and nothing else. DITA describes its position plainly as “a category of one.” It is not a fashion house licence producing eyewear on the side. Frames are the entire focus of the company, and every design and production resource goes into getting them right.

A single DITA frame passes through hundreds of individual production steps and can take several months to complete. That figure reflects what the manufacturing standard actually requires, not a number chosen for effect. The craftspeople working in DITA’s Japanese factories have spent as many as 50 years in eyewear production, and the materials they work with are chosen for how they perform over time, not just how they look on day one.

Flight Series

The Flight Series draws from post-war aviation design and the visual language of military aircraft from the 1970s.
